For a long time, in the material world, light was considered a manifestation of God and the universe. The ancient metaphysics of light, with its view of light and darkness as two forces struggling against each other, shaped our imagination for millennia. However, the advent of electrification profaned light, and as the sky became "empty of God," the usefulness of the ancient metaphysics of light also diminished. It has been replaced by light art, writes Hartmut Böhme, which makes diverse use of light, culminating in temporality in Turrellesque light installations.

At the end of 2014, UNISCO declared 2015 the International Year of Light IYL, and almost simultaneously, the Optical Society OSA was preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2016. As an artist and researcher in the sciences of the visual arts, particularly laser art, I have been invited by several institutions to participate in both events.

On one hand, I focused on the role of the visual arts in promoting light as a matter and how the current sciences and technology of light have profoundly transformed the concept of artistic material. Through various activities, I provided a comprehensive vision of light in art, not only through individual practice but also by delivering activities, lectures, and seminars for the public.
